Jurien Bay extras
Wednesday 11th May
Well no problem settling into sleeping in MM, we didn't get up till 10:00 on Wednesday! Made up for it with a brisk walk along the beachside path. Looks like this is where some of my taxes went, when I used to work and pay taxes. Plenty of development going on in the area too, lots of brand new McMansions going up and the old fishing shacks are disappearing.
Again, the skies are blue and the temperature is in the mid 20's but it's been a hectic day. To be honest we struggled to fit in, breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and wine o'clock before tea time. But we managed. To celebrate being back on the road we cracked a proper bottle of red that we had picked up in SA and used that to wash down a beautiful piece of (thick cut) local rib eye steak. Deeeeelicious.
Another dilemma tonight – do we go go and see Buzz the Bush Baladeer or do we reacquaint ourselves with NCIS? Well to be honest since Di doesn't like either Country OR western music there was no choice really. NCIS it is.
Thursday 12th May
Weather update – well not really an update. Still the same, blue skies and mid 20's. I'd love to be a TV weather man here, you could record the weather segment on Monday morning and then have the rest of the week off.
Ended up walking the other way down the beach path today – I know very adventurous.
Dark again by 6:00 but a beautiful clear sky and lots of stars tonight.
A bit of a setback on my relaxation when I tried to set up the new piece of computer equipment that is meant to allow Di and I to access the Internet at the same time. Having bought a piece of equipment that my cousin Gina demonstrated working I wasn't anticipating any problems. Well actually I was, because I know that Gina was not connecting to Telstra, and neither am I as it turns out. Oh well it's off to the other piece of technology that Gina introduced me to – Angry Birds. (yep the same game my mate Jimmy is addicted to fond of . So this it what crack cocaine addiction is like! Unbelievably difficult to put the game down, until Di forcibly removed the iPod from my hands and made me go to bed.
Friday 13th May
Cold again overnight and a bit crisp this morning but still pleasant enough to eat breakfast outside. Few domestic chores before leaving this morning and then it was off to Dongara.
Not far to go but stopped at Dynamite Bay for a photo opportunity and a morning tea. A glass of Iced Coffee with a very nice iced bun from the Jurien Bay Bakery.
Dongara/Fort Denison is kind of one town, separated by the Irwin river and 3 kilometres. So now that I think about it, it's really two separate towns. Anyway, we toured around both of them in MM, stocked up on brochures at the info centre and then booked in for the night at the Big 4 in Fort Denison.
Now when I say our site is right next door to the camp kitchen, I mean right next door. If the TV remote control wasn't chained to the wall (or if I had a pair of bolt cutters) we could sit in bed watching the TV and still channel surf. With the sea glimpses though it is nonetheless a very pleasant little site.
According to the brochures the area is famous for it's rock lobsters. Although I don't remember the B52's mentioning the place in their song. On the other hand I only listen to the B52's when I have been drinking the shots named after them so maybe they did mention it after all. But, back to the point Stephen. We wandered into town and despite there being a large number of fishing boats in the harbour there didn't appear to be any rock lobster shops so it's chops and salad for tea tonight.
We were at the beach
Everybody had matching towels
Somebody went under a dock
And there they saw a rock
It wasn't a rock
It was a rock lobsterRock Lobster!!!Saturday 14thMay.OK, there seems to be some sort of mistake here. It's grey, windy and not warm. Do I sense a lack of sympathy from the eastern states?Mind you the morning was fine enough for us to walk up to Dongara and pick up some bits and pieces from the supermarket before spending a quiet afternoon in MM watching the drizzle outside. For the second night in a row we took advantage of our close proximity to the camp kitchen and cooked and ate tea in there. Unfortunately the drizzle has progressed to light rain, but it's still nice and cozy in MM (and thanks to Herb's repair work it's still dry).
