Step 97 Croydon – Archer River 400 km's

Tuesday 2nd August. 9 months on the road.
Yes, hard to believe but it's nine months today since we set off from Jan Juc on the great adventure.

Bit late getting started this morning so we missed the visitor's centre again.
55 km's west of Georgetown and we hit the ribbon road again. Actually what happened was:

Driving, driving. Beautifully surfaced, standard two lane bitumen road.
Di - “Gee I was expecting this bit of road to be worse. No one lane stuff at all is there.”
Steve - “Yeah you're right, I thought this bit was going to ribbon road all the way”
Di - “No traffic around either.”
Steve - “Yeah it's brilliant isn't it”

Bang. Potholes. Ribbon road. Traffic coming the other way. Bouncing along with two wheels in the dirt.

How many times do I have to say it – do NOT tempt fate.

Beside the road it appears we are in cattle country. Mosly proper cows as well not so many of the Brahmin that we have been seeing for awhile. By the by, are Brahmin the scawniest looking cows you have ever seen or what?
After a quick stop to refresh MM, with diesel, we pulled into the local park at Georgetown, on the banks of what is probably the mighty Etheridge River at other times of the year.

Today it's definitely low tide.

Further up the road is the little hamlet of Mt Surprise where we are treated to a free car wash. Well actually its a weed reduction measure, where you drive over water jets that clean the underside of your car to remove unwelcome hitchhikers.

Our plan for today was to stop off at the Tallaroo Hot Springs but apparently they are closed.
For quite some time judging by the sign.

Our fall back plan, Innot Springs, also fell back. The springs appear to be inside the caravan park. Which doesn't look all that inviting.
Oh well, back on the road again and it all works out for the best as we ended up at a free camp, by the banks of the Archer River.

Yet again the free camp is in a beautiful setting and in this case the camping area is beautifully maintained. The grass is almost manicured and loads of space as well. It even has proper flushing toilets. Loooxury.

With no Internet reception and the last of our TV programs watched we ended up watching the King's Speech on video. Very entertaining and hasn't Guy Pearce come along in leaps and bounds since Neighbours.
